héctor carmona miranda/2023

as an artist, i have recently embarked on a transformative journey, embracing a new artistic approach rooted in my bicultural heritage. although my past work may not fully reflect this transition, my recent and future creations embody the fusion of american and mexican influences and the harmonious integration of traditional and contemporary techniques.

my art melds mexican and american pop culture symbols, forging a thought-provoking dialogue that respects and honors my cultural roots. in a gesture that reveres tradition and embraces innovation, i employ the intricate beadwork of the huichol people while simultaneously harnessing digital fabrication and 3d printing. this process involves digitally sculpting popular culture symbols, 3d printing them, and meticulously adorning them with vibrant glass beads reminiscent of huichol craftsmanship.

in my artistic practice, i explore the dynamic interplay between the rich tapestry of my bicultural heritage, american and mexican, and the ever-evolving landscape of popular culture. through this synthesis of mexican and american, ancient and modern, and high and low art, my work celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the huichol people and engages with contemporary pop culture iconography. this artistic dialogue enables me to deconstruct, and this reclamation allows me to infuse these icons with my unique significance, creating new layers of meaning.

my art is a vibrant fusion of mexican and american pop culture references, amalgamating the iconography of both nations to create a thought-provoking dialogue. i pay homage to the likes of mel ramos, whose love for low art resonates with me, and roy lichtenstein, whose work has also deeply influenced my practice. rimbaud's inclination for vivid imagery and exploration of the inner self and bukowski's unapologetic candor and grit expression in the bold, genuine forms have profoundly shaped my visual language. the fusion of their literary sensibilities has filled my artistic practice with a sense of authenticity and intensity.

drawing from gilles deleuze's assemblage and rhizome concepts, my work unites diverse elements into a complex, cohesive entity. assemblage signifies dynamic arrangements of heterogeneous components, while rhizome denotes a non-hierarchical network akin to a root system, embracing multiplicity and fluidity. through this framework, i explore a series of assemblages of high and low art, ancient and modern methods, mexican and american culture, huichol craftsmanship, and digital fabrication, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared cultural heritage.

my goal is to create a space for reflection on our shared human experience, transcending cultural and temporal boundaries. through the lens of my bicultural identity, i invite the viewer to engage with the multifaceted perspectives that comprise our complex world, ultimately fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse tapestry that constitutes our shared cultural heritage.
